We know when summer comes around that your Toyota can get a bit frazzled, as you pump the air conditioner constantly or leave it out in the sun all day. But did you know that there are things you can do to look after your car in the colder months too? Here’s some winter maintenance tips for your Toyota to keep you going all winter long!

Check the oil of your Toyota

It may sound obvious, but it’s an important rule to follow. If your oil is sludgy or the level is low, your Toyota’s engine won’t run as it should. Top it up or drain and replace it as necessary, and your Toyota will love you for it!

Cleaning your windscreen

It happens after every frost; you jump in the car ready to head to work, and the windscreen is frosted up. But you’ve got to be at work in 15 minutes and you don’t have time to sit there and wait for it to defrost! A simple solution of 1 part water and 2 parts rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle will fix the problem in seconds. Just mix it up in a spray bottle, spray your windscreen and you’ll be on your way! Lighting

One major hazard with winter driving is that the sun sets earlier in the day, which of course means there’s less daylight, especially when it’s time to head from work. So you’ll want to do everything you can to ensure all of your vehicle’s lights are in good working condition, providing the brightest possible light they can. If a bulb needs fixing, fix it now because you get stuck somewhere without light.

Tire Pressure

It’s incredibly important to keep track of your tire pressure as the temperature gets colder. Tire pressures can drop along with the air pressure, which means that if it’s not monitored you could be at risk of premature tire wear or potential tread separation. Your Toyota will also handle less predictably with underinflated tires. If you check your tire pressure and they are low, fill them at a petrol station and don’t forget to let out a little air as temperatures start to climb again in spring!

If you follow these simple steps throughout winter, you’ll be able to look after your Toyota and keep it well maintained. And of course, if you have any questions or concerns the friendly Service Department at Dubbo City Toyota would be more than happy to help!
